Message: The installation of .... has appeared to have failed.

Occurrence

When running the installation of a MapInfo product I receive the message -

"The installation of xxxx has appeared to have failed. Do you want to continue the installation?"

Where xxxx refers to the name of a prerequisite.

Solution

For the named prerequisite, try downloading (i.e. form Microsoft downloads) and installing these manually. They will also fail, but with a more descriptive error message and you can contact their (i.e. Microsoft support) for troubleshooting the error in their installer.
If you do not have all prerequisites correctly installed, certain functionality of our products may not work.
