I try to reproject coordinates but it hangs then silently crashes. No output file is created.

This is caused by left over files from a previous version of Discover conflicting with new version. Tor esolve, uninstall both Discover and Mapinfo Pro from the control panel, then re-install the latest version of the Discover bundle installer which you can find here -
