Creating 3D PDF from Encom Discover PA 3D display

The process of creating a 3D PDF from Encom PA is reasonably straight forward using Adobe Acrobat 3D v9.0. The steps are:

1.   Open PA and load your data/session into the 3D window and then set up the display to how you want it to look in the output PDF.

2.   Open Acrobat 3D and click Edit->Preferences. Click 3D Capture and make sure "Enable global 3D capture" is enabled.

3.   In Acrobat 3D click File->Create 3D PDF->From 3D Capture. Change the settings to enable capture from Encom PA (you may need to restart Encom PA when you do this for the first time).

4.   Then go back to Encom PA and press the Prnt Scrn key on the keyboard . Accept the default 3D conversion settings when they appear.

5.   You should now have a 3D PDF.

Tips:

1.       Some of the object types in Encom PA may not convert across correctly. Multiple EGB's often have issues where the textures are not displayed correctly or may obscure other parts of the 3D content.

2.       Transparency almost always causes issues in the PDF so it is best to avoid it

3.       You should turn off the 3D axis and 3D Compass in Encom PA – The 3D compass is located in the Tools>Options dialog under the View tab and the 3D Axis (if present) can be turned off from the workspace tree.

4.       On 3D vectors you should turn off the "Cull back" property.
