How can I display a Section Grid in Profile Displays?

To display a section grid object in a profile display:

1.Ensure that the original dataset that the section grids were created from is loaded into PA.

2.Open a single Curve Profile display using the File>New>Profile>Curve Profile menu option.

3.In the Workspace Tree for the Curve profile display that appears click on the "tick" box for the Curve branch to hide this data object.

4.Add a Section Grid data object to the display using the Insert>Data Object>Section Grid menu option. The Section Grid Properties dialog will appear.

5.In the Data tab for the Section Grid Properties dialog choose the line in the dataset that corresponds to the first section grid that was created.

6.In the Surfaces tab for the Section Grid Properties dialog choose the corresponding section grid name from the drop-down list or else press the Browse button (yellow folder icon) and navigate to the folder where the section grids were saved.

7.If you have more than one section grid you can now use the Line Iterator toolbar buttons  to view the lines sequentially in the database and the corresponding sections grid files should automatically be opened in Encom PA and displayed in the section profiles.

To view these section grids in 3D:

Section grids can only be displayed in 3D once they have been converted to an Image Series. To convert these grids following the following steps:

1.
Have the section profile display open as described above.

2.In the Workspace Tree window right mouse click on the Profile 1 branch as  illustrated below and from the pop-up menu that appears select the View in 3D option. This options will convert the section grids into Located Images which can then be displayed in 3D.

3.In the Section export to 3D dialog that appears enter a file Output Directory Location and then an Output file name Prefix. This means that for every 3D image that is produce there will be a file name of {PREFIX}_Line1, {PREFIX}_Line2, etc. By default all lines in the dataset will be converted to located images so if you do not wish to display all lines you can select the lines to display from the Line Selection button in this dialog.

4.Select the Finish button and PA will automatically generate Located Images of your section grid and then automatically display them in a new 3D display window. If you want to add these images to an already created 3D display, you can select the Located Image (.EGB) file from the Data Manager window and drag this item into the destination 3D display.
