Unable to connect to Discover for ArcGIS Cloud Licensing error -17

Occurrence

I am trying to connect to a cloud license but receiving a Communications Error (error code -17)

Solution

Firstly double check your Client ID and Password are correct.

If this is correct, then check with licenseing@dataminesoftware.com if you license server is running and the license isn't expired.


Lastly, it is possible this error is caused by network unable to connect to the licnse server. Check with you IT if you need to whitelist the URL or access to the https://ls53.rlmcloud.com and Https://rlmcloud.com.

If possible try a different internet connection to activate on, i.e. hotspot your smartphones mobile data, and connect to its hotspot wifi. Or If possible take your laptop home or to a cafe public wifi connection to try and activate, and then take the license offline to use.

It could also be possible that local antivirus software may have firewalls blocking access to certain urls. Check with your IT on instructions on how to either temporarily disable this, or if URLs need to be possibly whitelisted.
