MapInfo Pro is crashing on opening

Occurrence

When starting MapInfo Discover bundle, I see the splash loading screens, but then it crashes.

Solution

This is usually caused by corrupted settings or 3rd party tools in the tool manager.

To resolve this, delete the folder -
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\MapInfo\MapInfo\Professional\1700

Where USERNAME is your windows user name, and 1700 is the MapInfo version, i.e. MapInfo 17.0 is 1700, MapInfo 16.0 is 1600.

Delete the file -
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\MapInfo\MapInfo\preferences.xml

Then navigate to the start menu and search for "regedit". Open the Registry Editor. Then navigate to -
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\MapInfo\MapInfo\Professional\1700

1700 is the MapInfo version, i.e. MapInfo 17.0 is 1700, MapInfo 16.0 is 1600. Right click on the 1700 folder, and delete it.
