My page size isn't listed. How can I print to my page size?

Occurrence

You are using the MapInfo PDF Printer, and under Page Setup the page size want to use is not listed.

How can I print to this size?

Solution

The MapInfo PDF Printer as the ability to add custom page sizes. To do to this -

1. Go to LAYOUT>Page Setup

2. Click Printer...

3. Click Properties...

4. On the Paper settings tab, click Custom and add the custom size.

MapInfo PDF printer output quality is poor

Occurrence

In the MapInfo 64bit new layout, the output quality of PDFs is poor.

Solution

Vector export from the layout window was removed in the new layout window, which is causing this issue.

It can be improved if you try enabling this option in the MapInfo PDF Printer -

In Mapinfo Professional, I wish to create a printed map at a defined scaled.

The Discover Scaled output tool automates this process, however this can be done manually.

To do this -

1. Select Window>New Layout Window
2. Select to Create a frame for the desired map window
3. In the Layout window, firstly set the printer, page size and orientation; under File->Page Setup.
4. In the Layout, re-size the frame as desired by left-click and dragging the frame's border line.
5. Double-left click inside the Layout Frame (map) area to open the properties.
6. In the properties page ensure "Fill frame with contents" is ticked.
7. Enter a desired scale, and select to "Change Map zoom".
8. Click Ok to close the properties and apply changes.
9. Review the map, and if necessary, pan the map window to change the view in frame bounds.
10. Then simply print from the layout window.

MapInfo generated layered PDF contains no layers - how do I print a layered PDF?

How do I print a PDF document that contains layers representing my map or layout window layers.

Solution

MapInfo Professional 10.0 introduced layered PDF printing support. This means any layers contained in a Map or Layout Window, will be printed into separate layers in a PDF file.

However it currently only works with a number of restrictions, including -

Make sure you are printing with the MapInfo PDF Printer version 10.0 print driver
Make sure Enhanced Rendering is turned off by navigating to Map>Options or Layout>Options (If you cannot turn it off for a layout, turn it off for the source map windows first)
Make sure all vectors, rasters or grids do NOT have any Transparency/Translucency turned on
Check under Options>Preferences>Output Settings>Printing, that you are printing Directly to device

Rotated Text objects appear black when printed.

If MapInfo is being operated under a terminal services environment when printing in either hardcopy
or PDF rotated text will appear as a solid fill.
This is caused if the Windows default printer is set to a non�compatible citrix/terminal services printer.

To resolve:

- Change the windows default printer on the terminal end

- In MapInfo Professional�Preferences>Options>Printer set to Windows Default

- Restart MapInfo Professional�to load the new printer settings
