How to display grid images in separate maps in the one window and be data linked together

To display more than one grid image in separate 2D maps but in the same window:
1. Right mouse click on the Map 1 branch in the workspace tree and select Clone>Graph from the pop-up menu that appears.
2. a Prompt dialog will appear asking to specify if the new grid map should appear to the right of the original or underneath the original.
3. Choose the preferred option and click OK.
4. A new map display will appear within the original Map Frame (in the workspace tree) so that two grid maps are now visible. The two maps are now linked.
5. View the Properties for the new Grids branch in the workspace tree and edit the Grid file being displayed to the new one.
6. Repeat steps 1-5 for as many grid maps that are required.

How can I edit a stacked profile display in Encom PA?

To change this display
will need to recreate the stacked profile using the Display Utilities>Stacked Profile menu option.
Suggestion: Leave the Stacked Profile dialog open and to the side of the application window after
clicking the Generate button so that the parameters can be altered quickly.

Extremely small fonts in axis annotations and titles

Q: When a profile or map is first displayed, sometimes the font size of the X and Y coordinates and titles are extremely small and cannot be read on the screen. This applies to both both page layout and non-page layout views. Is there any way that I can change the defaults so that my annotations are bigger without needing to change them manually?

In page layout mode the fonts may not be readable – this is by design as the page layout view is a print preview so you are interested in what the fonts look like on paper rather than on screen.

A: The normal mode is designed to show you your document in a viewable/readable fashion. There are a few solutions to this issue:

1. Firstly you can create a registry key in – "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Encom\Encom PA\DefaultSettings" called "2DAxis_TickFontHeight". Make it a DWORD value and enter a value for the font height (decimal). It is in tenths of a point so 7 pts = 70, 10pts = 100 etc.

You will find that this immediately addresses the problem.

2. Secondly and the traditional workaround is to modify the font sizes to what you want and then save the document as a template. You can then use this template as the default source ...

How can I measure the distance betweem two locations on a map or cross-section?

To measure the distance between two points, lines or the width of an anomaly use the Distance/Bearing tool located on the Main Toolbar.

With this button selected simply click on a starting location on the map or cross-section display window and then click again on another location. the pop-up window that appears will display the Distance, Total Distance (for more than two locations) and Azimuth.

How can I create a Located Image file from a 2D map display?

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

This option can also be found in the pop-up menu when you right mouse click on the Map branch of the workspace tree for a 2D Map. The option to “Save As Located Image…” will save multiple layers displayed in the 2D map window as one layer (similar to the Raster option) but can also apply a Z scale to this image based on a grid surface (e.g. DTM).

To create this surface, in the Located Image Settings dialog that appears specify an .EGB file to save the located image as, and then the image resolution and file format. To offset the image to a grid surface, select the Surface option for the Geometry and load a grid file that is to be used for the offset. Instead of creating a raster image this creates a georeferenced image which can be loaded into a 3D display as a Located Bitmap Surface (4th button on the Surface Properties dialog.

How can I create a raster image of a 2D map display?

If there is a 2D map displaying multiple layers of vectors, grids, contours, models, etc then this can be saved as a raster image for additional use in Encom PA, such as a draped surface image over a 3D gridded surface.

To create a raster image from a 2D map, highlight the Map branch in the workspace tree and click the right mouse button to display a pop-up menu. select the option to “Save As RGB Raster…”

Then specify the Output Resolution of the image and choose between ERMapper (.ERS) or GeoTiff (.TIFF) file format for the raster image.

Once this file has been created it can be draped over a 3D surface using the RGB Surface layer in the Surface Properties of a 3D display window.

How can I adjust the colour mapping of a grid to view more detail?

Encom PA has the ability to stretch the colours in a grid (using a dynamic histogram equalisation) within a data zoomed area of an image window. This is particularly useful where small, low amplitude features are important. To enable the dynamic colour stretching, select the top Grid Group branch of the Grid Group Properties dialog. Select the check box to Adjust colour scale dynamically to operate this feature.

Another option available is to use the Advanced Colour Mapping option in the Grid Group Properties dialog when the Colour branch is highlighted (see below).

This will display the Advanced Colour mapping dialog. Selec the User defined option from the Data Transform drop-down list and manually manipulate the colour stretch by selecting and moving the nodes that appear on both the histogram and the vertical/horizontal colour frequencies (see below).
