Occurrence

The Structural Symbols tool allows applying to existing table of points.

How do I create and digitize new symbols?

Solution

Firstly create a new table with suitable field types to digitize.

Then go to Project>Setup>Table Validation and the lookup table in a character field (you can inspect these in the Project>Setup>Picklist Manager) and the field for Dip Direction or Strike, Dip, and the Discover Code.

Now you will be able to use Project>Data Entry>Record Entry, and simply add a point to the table and then you will be able to select the style and populate the fields -

How do I convert strike to dip direction?

There are various rules and methods on how to acutal measure strike and dip, commonly known as the "Right Hand Rule".

The most simplistic and straight-forward interpretation, is measured perpendicular to the Dip Direction, so converting simply requires -90, but then a correction factor applied to any negatives to subtract from 360.

To do this in Mapinfo -

1. Create a new Column for the Dip direction. Then use Table Update Column and minus 90 form the strike

2. Now select from this Dip Direction table, the rows where Dip Direction has gone below 0, using Table>SQL Select -

3. Now update the selection query, to subtract the values from 360 -

Encom fonts files are missing or black square symbols are appearing

Occurrence

After upgrading/installing Discover, the symbols such as Collar and EOH symbols on sections and certain map symbols are displaying as black Squares.

Solution

After installing/upgrading Encom Discover, you will need to restart Windows to complete the update of the Encom ET font files.
