How to fix incorrect reprojection of data to/from AGD84

If you're using ArcGIS Pro to reproject data between the GDA94 and AGD84 datums, for example using the "Project" geoprocessing tool, the default transform method is NTv2, but this is not valid for some states of Australia. This can lead to results which are out by hundreds of metres. So, if you're converting data from/to AGD84 that is located in the NSW, Victoria, Tasmania, or the NT, you should select a different transform method, such as one that uses a 7 parameter similarity transform.

Please see appendix B of the GDA Technical Manual for a map showing the coverage of the AGD84 NTv2 file.

Collecting debug information for ArcGIS Pro

Navigate to Project>Options>Discover Configuration. Under Logging, turn on Enable Log and Enable Diagnostics and restart.

After the error/problem occurs, collect the Discover logs files from -

This PC>Documents>ArcGIS>Diagnostics

You should also collect the application error from the Event Viewer by -

1. Search the start menu for "Event Viewer"

2. Open this program, then go to Windows Logs>Applications

3. Scroll down to the time the crash occurred, and find the Error event

4. Check the event details reference the program you were using

5. Right click on this, and select Save Selected Events.

Occurrence

When I import a file into Discover for ArcGIS Pro, the Shape Area or Length field is negative values or zero.

Solution

You can correct this be running the Geoprocessing Data Management>Repair Geometry tool on the feature class layer.

I have installed Discover for ArcGIS Pro, but the Discover menu is not appearing

Occurrence

If you have installed Discover for ArcGIS but the menu does not appear when you open ArcGIS Pro, or you are not prompted to license Discover.

Solution

Firstly, open ArcGIS Pro, then click Settings. Navigate to Add-In Manager, then click the Options tab. In here check you have to folder listed, and than the option select is "Load all Add-Ins without restrictions (least secure)" Restart ArcGIS Pro.

If it still doesn't load Discover, manually run the ArcGIS Pro Addin installer by double clicking on the file -

C:\Program Files\Datamine\DiscoverArcGIS\Datamine.Discover.ArcGISPro.AddIn.esriAddinX

If it still doesn't work, try opening the registry editor and deleting the folder -

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Datamine\DiscoverArcGIS

How to refresh my sections and plans

When updated drillhole data is received in your Drillhole sources, there is a number of options to update your existing project's sections and plan maps.

First you should use Drillhole>Refresh Drillhole Data, these will overwrite your project's drilling.gdb data with a new imported copy of the source data.

Then Section Manager>Regenerate will update all selected sections/plans with the new drillhole data.

Note that Drillhole>Refresh Views will regenerate desurveyed traces, but not add any new holes to existing sections/plans.

Discover tools are running really slow

Occurrence

Certain Discover functions are running really slow.

Solution

Check your computer meets the minimum requirements -

Why are drillhole cross-sections displayed in non-earth co-ordinates but in WGS 1984 Web Mercator?

Occurrence

Drillhole cross-sections created using the Drillholes>Generate Sections display the X axis co-ordinates in non-earth inline distance units, rather than real world units (e.g. UTM).

Occurrence

After installing ArcGIS Pro 3.0 and Discover, I am unable to open any Discover geoprocessing tool and receive python errors.

Solution

Please browse to the folder below -
C:\Program Files\dotnet\host\fxr\

And delete the subfolders except for the highest version one, which is probably "6.0.13".

Occurrence

When opening a Excel file in ArcGIS Pro I get an error or the worksheets never load.

Solution

To resolve this error -
1. Go to the Windows Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs select the Microsoft Access Database Engine 2016 (if present) and click Repair.

If the issues persist, or this program is not installed -
1. Go to the Windows Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs and uninstall both Datamine Discover Add-In for ArcGIS Pro and the Microsoft Access Database Engine 2016 (if present).
2. Reinstall the Datamine Discover Add-In from its installer.

This will check and reinstall/repair the Access Database Engine.

Raster grid image formats added by Discover

In addition to the standard formats supported natively by ArcGIS (https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/latest/help/data/imagery/supported-raster-dataset-file-formats.htm), Discover adds supports for a number of extra formats which you can open by simply going to Map>Add Data>Data.

These are -

Encom Grid (*.grd)

Geopak Grid (*.grd)

Geosoft Grid (*.grd)

Landmark Grid (*.grd)

Multi Resolution Raster (*.mrr)

USGS Grid (*.usg)

How to upgrade the Discover Add-In after you have upgraded ArcGIS Pro

If you have upgrade ArcGIS Pro to a new major version, the Discover Add In will still be installed and loaded.

Generally it will work fine and you do not need to do anything.

However the GDAL grid drivers will need to be updated if you have opened any of the following grid types -

Encom

Geopak

Geosoft

Landmark

Mapinfo Raster (MRR)

USGS

Vulcan

Then you must re-install or upgrade Discover Add-In to install the correct version of these drivers to match ArcGIS Pro.

To do this, simply start ArcGIS Pro and Discover will notify you of an update available, download and install this.

If you are notified and have to current version, uninstall Discover for ArcGIS Add-In from the Control Panel. Then re-install it.

Software Requirements

The Discover addin will attempt to install the following during its installation process.

In addition ArcGIS Pro requires the Microsoft Access Engine 2016 to open Excel/Access files. This maybe the x86/32bit or x64/64bit version -

Microsoft Access Engine 2016 x64 (64bit), regardless of the office version.

ArcGIS Pro is hanging when opening a project

This maybe caused on certain networks by the Discover checking for new versions.

You can disable the check for updates to resolve the issue by opening the Registry Editor and go to

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Datamine\DiscoverArcGIS

And create a new DWORD value called “CheckForUpdates” with a value of 0.
