Unable to make ODBC/DBMS Table mappable

Occurrence

I have created an ODBC connection and successfully opened a DBMS Table. When I navigate to Table>Maintenance>Make DBMS Table Mappable I receive either the error:

"The table you have chosen cannot be made mappable. To be made mappable, a table must contain a spatial column or at least two numeric columns"

Along with either

"Could not find output table 'MAPINFO_MAPCATALOG"

Or

"Unable to download only the OBJECT from a DBMS table. Select an additional attribute column"

Solution

1. Ensure you have created a MAPINFO_MAPCATALOG table in the source database. To create this database table navigate to Tools>Tool Extensions>MapInfo Easyloader.

Note that you will need to be logged into the ODBC Database with a Administrator account for the database, so you can create the table.

2. Select the ODBC connection at the top of the EasyLoader dialog, and then click the Map Catalog button. Close the Easyloader tool and check In the database, it has automatically created a MAPINFO_MAPCATALOG table.

3. If you have any tables ope from the database, close them first.

4. Open any database tables via HOME>Open>Database Table. If you have any existing TAB files already crated, select yet to overwrite and update them.

5. Navigate to TABLES>Maintenance>Make DBMS Table Mappable to define the projeciton and fields.

6. The table is now mappable and you can create points and edit their locations.
